While working as an Executive Editor at Skyword, I have had the opportunity to edit content for both large and small organizations, including GE HealthCare, Capital One, Verizon, and more. My role is equal parts business executive and editorial team leader. With each program I lead, regardless of whether the project calls for management of niche subject matter or larger scale B2B topics, I have learned the importance of researching the company’s mission, vision, and voice, as well how these differ from others across the industry landscape. This process entails assessing the landscape’s SEO practices, tone, audience, and more. As an Executive Editor, I build and manage a network of freelance writers and editorial team members to establish productive editorial workflows with high content volume and tight deadlines. In particular, the Verizon program calls for a high editorial volume each month, producing business articles, case studies, white papers, and other content for their business blog.
I previously worked as the Managing Editor of ImageTexT Journal over the course of four years. I oversaw the journal’s entire article and book review editing pipelines, including peer review, copyediting, production editing, and publication. Principally, I moved accepted articles into the peer review circuit, contacted potential peer reviewers, reconnected with authors about their peer review acceptances or rejections, matched revised work with style editors, and sent finalized work to the Production Editor for publication. I helped develop our new website, and I designed the journal covers for issues 12.1 and 12.2. I also launched a new position at the journal, called the Style Editing Mentor, so that returning Style Editors can mentor new ones about style editing principles for ImageTexT. I previously served as a Copyeditor, Assistant Book Reviews Editor, and Book Reviews Editor, and for more information about my experiences for those positions, please see my CV.
I have also served as a Writing Tutor for the Northeastern University Writing Tutor, 826 Boston, the John D. O’Bryant School, and Varsity Tutors, helping students improve their composition skills and processes, so that they may work towards stronger finished products.
At the Northeastern University Center for STEM Education, I edited all outgoing written communication from the office. I wrote and edited the monthly newsletter sent out to our listserv of incoming freshmen, late-stage high school students, parents, program alumni, and more. I also edited a number of grant proposals written by the Center for STEM Education Director of Operations, helping the Center to acquire additional funding for educational programming. I wrote and edited seasonal, data-driven reports about the Center’s initiatives, utilizing pre- and post-program feedback surveys. I edited the Center’s website for clarity and cohesion, and I also wrote and designed promotional materials that helped launch our initiatives and educational programing. I helped late-stage high school students edit their own college essays as part of their work with the Young Scholars Program (YSP).
